Character Poster Art

Project type

Character Poster

Date

June 2024

Location

Chicago, Illinois

This project involved designing a cohesive set of character posters that visually communicate the identities, motivations, and narrative roles of two original characters from a developing story. The goal was to translate written personality traits and thematic elements into compelling visual compositions that function as both storytelling tools and standalone design pieces.

A key challenge was creating distinct character representations while maintaining a unified visual system. To address this, I developed a consistent spy/neo-noir aesthetic, using controlled color palettes, typography, and graphic motifs to establish mood and continuity across both posters. Each design highlights the character’s personality, mission, and underlying narrative arc through carefully structured layout and visual hierarchy.

I focused on balancing atmosphere with clarity—ensuring that stylistic elements enhanced, rather than obscured, the informational content. Design decisions such as contrast, composition, and type treatment were used to guide the viewer’s attention and reinforce each character’s tone and role within the story.

This project demonstrates the ability to interpret narrative concepts into visual form, build cohesive design systems across multiple pieces, and solve the challenge of maintaining consistency while preserving individual character identity.
