This project focused on developing a public awareness campaign for the Chicago Transit Authority, addressing a current system-wide issue through strategically designed visual communication. Working collaboratively, our team created a series of two posters intended for placement across trains, buses, and transit stations to effectively reach a diverse, high-volume audience.
The core challenge was translating a complex, real-world transit issue into clear, immediate messaging that could capture attention in fast-paced environments. We approached this by prioritizing hierarchy, legibility, and visual impact—ensuring that key information could be understood within seconds by commuters in motion.
Our process involved identifying the most critical aspects of the issue, distilling them into concise messaging, and pairing them with bold, accessible visuals. We also considered environmental constraints such as viewing distance, lighting conditions, and limited attention spans, which informed our typography choices, color contrast, and layout decisions.
Additionally, we focused on designing for inclusivity and broad accessibility, ensuring the content was understandable to a wide demographic. By aligning messaging with the context in which it would be seen, we created posters that not only raise awareness but encourage public engagement and dialogue.
This project demonstrates the ability to solve communication challenges through design, balancing clarity, urgency, and visual appeal within a real-world public transit context.
