Nation Branding
Project Type
Brand Identity Design
Date
March 2024
This project explores the creation of a fully realized fictional nation built around the themes of anarchy, resistance, and anti-establishment ideology. Set within a mountainous region of Colorado, the concept centers on a breakaway society that rejects traditional governance, requiring a cohesive identity that reflects both rebellion and internal structure.
The primary challenge was translating an abstract political and cultural concept into a functional and believable national brand system. I approached this by developing a visual language that balances chaos with cohesion—ensuring the identity felt raw and defiant while still operating as an organized entity.
Deliverables included a complete suite of branded materials such as flags, official seals, currency, and passports. Each element was designed to serve a specific purpose within the nation’s ecosystem, requiring careful consideration of symbolism, hierarchy, and usability. For example, I explored how a nontraditional government might still require recognizable markers of legitimacy, leading to the creation of unconventional but systematized identification and financial design.
Throughout the project, I focused on solving key design problems such as maintaining consistency across diverse applications, creating meaning through symbolism, and designing systems that feel authentic within a speculative context. The result is a cohesive world building exercise that demonstrates both creative concept development and the ability to apply structured design thinking to unconventional ideas.
